How the pros voted? Today: Germany

Monday 6 November was the day of the announcement of the 2005-06 FIFPro World XI. Who did the pros vote for in the various countries? Are there any remarkable differences? During the coming few days we will have a close look at the results from several important football counties. Today: Germany

The team that got the most votes among the professional footballers in Germany is different in no less than five instances than the full result. In only a few cases, it concerns the chauvinist choice for Germany’s own players after an excellent World Cup.

Phillip Lahm (at the cost of Zambrotta) and Miroslav Klose (at the cost of Samuel Eto’o) managed to get through to the ‘German’ FIFPro World XI. Other excellent candidates like Jens Lehmann and Michael Ballack did not get sufficient support from their German fellows.

Also deviating from the FIFPro World XI is the choice for the Brazilian Bayern Munich player Lucio, who was able to impress the German professionals throughout the year. Two other deviating choices concern Alessandro Nesta and Frank Lampard, who were part of last years’ FIFPro World XI, but who did not gather enough votes for this year.

In Germany, as in many other countries, Ronaldinho is considered the best player of the 2005-2006 season.
