Luis Figo is known worldwide for his superb ball control and passing ability. Johan Cruyff noticed Figo's qualities in 1995 and brought him from Sporting to Barcelona. Figo became the darling of the Barca supporters. In 2000 Figo brought the wrath of the Catalonian fans on himself by moving to Real Madrid for a record sum of around 60 million euros. This turned out to be a good move, because in the 2000/2001 season Figo became national champion of Spain. With Real Madrid's star team Figo won the Champions League in 2002 and in 2003 he was again national champion. After a disappointing season Figo decided to move to Inter in 2005.

Two more prizes were added to Luis Figo's already well filled trophy-cabinet during the 2005/2006 season. The Portuguese won with Internazionale both the national title and the Coppa Italia. The team was knocked-out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by Villarreal.

Under Figo's captaincy at the 2006 World Cup Portugal reached the semi-finals following impressive victories over Mexico, the Netherlands and England. But after losing 1-0 against France in the semi-final Figo and Portugal were eliminated from the tournament.
