Steven Gerrard has been the Liverpool's star player for many years. Gerrard is known for his passion, kicking technique and scoring power. His greatest was winning the Champions League in 2005. He steered Liverpool to the last 16 with a late goal against Olympiakos and in the final against AC Milan, which was won in the end after penalties, it was Gerrard who lifted the spirit of his team with a striking header when they were 3-0 behind.
 
Despite interest from Chelsea, Gerrard extended his contract with Liverpool in the summer of 2005. With 10 goals in the league competition during the 2005/2006 season “the Red” played a major role in finishing in third place in the Premier League. Gerrard gave his greatest performance last season in the FA Cup final against West Ham United. With a fantastic long-range shot in the dying seconds he send the match into extra time which Liverpool finally won on penalty's.
 
Gerrard played an important role for England during the group phase in the 2006 World Cup, in which he scored against Trinidad & Tobago and Sweden. England was, however, knocked out in the quarter-finals by Portugal.
