Arjen Robben began his professional career at the age of 16 at FC Groningen in the Netherlands. PSV were taken with his fantastic solos and brought him to Eindhoven in 2002, where the outside-left developed into a world class player. It was not without reason that Robben was transferred to Chelsea in 2004 for 18 million euros, a huge amount for a footballer of such a young age.

In the 2005/2006 season Arjen Robben prolonged the national championship title with Chelsea. Robben is applauded in England for his smart spurts, but is also regularly criticized for his diving.

The 2006 World Cup began fantastically for Robben. He was the match winner in the first match against Serbia-Montenegro which was won by 1-0. The Netherlands reached the last 16 when they were, however, knocked out by Portugal.
